Psychotherapy and Counselling Wellington
Suryagita is an experienced Psychosynthesis Psychotherapist and Counsellor, and can support you in navigating difficulties in your life so that you can build skills to respond creatively to life’s challenges and relate to your self and others in a rewarding way.
Psychosynthesis is a gentle and yet powerful approach to therapy, addressing the whole person (body, feelings, thoughts, and spirituality) in order to integrate seemingly conflicting parts of themselves.
She helps people to achieve their goals in life, using a range of tools, including mindfulness, tracking mental and emotional patterns, breathing exercises to calm the nervous system, and ways to engage the imagination, adapting to each individual’s needs.
She works in the context of a therapeutic relationship – which in itself can heal relationship ruptures of the past.
She works with issues such as:
• trauma
• grief and loss
• PTSD
• stress and anxiety
• depression
• relationship issues
• difficulties at work / career changes
• fertility support
• life purpose / spiritual growth

I have found my Alexander Technique lessons with Suryagita to be a nourishing learning experience. She has helped me to connect with my body in a sensitive and enthusiastic way. She has inspired me to carry on long enough that much of what I learned feels a part of me. I greatly enjoyed our voice lessons as well and many things she showed me have enriched my life.

The diagnosis of Osteoporosis with pretty dreadful awful back pain led me on the search for an Alexander Technique teacher some ten months ago. I couldn't have been more fortunate than I have been to have found the skilled, compassionate practice of Suryagita Cox (at Alexander Voice Works). Her healing hands, teaching methods and her patient kindness has enabled me to get movement, strength and confidence back that I felt was lost.
It’s great that City Osteopaths supports the Alexander Technique. It has been a game changer for me and I'm hugely grateful. Thanks so much!

Lessons in the Alexander Technique with Suryagita help me to find immediate relief when my neck and shoulders are tight at work. I used to feel very tense when working for long hours, “stuck” in my body, as if my head was glued to the top of my spine. Regular lessons with Surya keep me feeling flexible. I no longer feel any pain in my back when I stand at my desk for 10 hours a day. My arms and hands don’t get so stiff, and I have learned how to bend easily at my joints so that I can stand and sit more comfortably. I can now localize where the tension is in my body, and when I relax those areas the pain is whipped away. The result is an ability to focus on my work better, which is a big help when my body is tired.

After a few months of Alexander Technique lessons I’m impressed at how much more comfortable my body is. It is now obvious to me how much my usual ways of sitting, standing and moving have led to soreness and stiffness, and the lessons show how to change these patterns.
Everyday activities, such as climbing stairs, working at the computer and gardening, seem much easier – sometimes almost effortless. The sessions are very enjoyable as Suryagita uses gentle manipulation to release muscles and guided movement to create better posture and ways of moving. She is a very supportive and responsive teacher who works with you on whatever is important to you on the day. I wish I’d found her and the Alexander Technique years ago.

The best thing about Surya's Alexander Technique lessons, for me, were how it was a genuinely surprising insight into what I was doing right, and more importantly, wrong! I found her the perfect teacher to help unpick my scepticism and the voice coaching element has paid huge benefits with my performing career.

Since having Alexander lessons I feel more confident, happy, my asthma has vastly improved and my posture is a million times better. It helps me cope with day to day stresses and I wouldn't do without it. I would definitely recommend anyone to give it a go!
